She started off in dominant fashion, needing only about 1:17 combined to rack up two 10-0 tech falls on her first two opponents. She then secured a few takedowns enroute to a 2:08 pinfall in her semifinal match. Brooklynn found herself up against Yailianys Lopez (Geneva) in the finals, whom she lost to 10-9 in the semifinals of the Canandaigua Revolution earlier this season. Brooklynn fell behind early when Lopez opened the scoring, but she bounced back and scored a reversal, which she converted to a pinfall at 1:39, securing the Sectional Championship. Brooklynn’s performance earned her the title of Most Outstanding Wrestler for the Lightweights. Photo from @HiltonCadets on X.

D’Agostinos, Contes Help Kendall Boys Run Away From Opponents https://westsidenewsny.com/schoolsports/2026-02-06/dagostinos-contes-help-kendall-boys-run-away-from-opponents/ Fri, 06 Feb 2026 16:55:00 +0000 https://westsidenewsny.com/?p=111570 1975-76 Championship Team to be Inducted Into Hall of Fame

By Warren Kozireski

Kendall has already equaled their win total from all last season with their ninth coming on February 2 against Attica, using a stifling man defense and a fast-paced offense to literally run away from many opponents.

All but one of their first nine wins were by double-digits, with their largest margin of victory being 40 points. And they have allowed more than 50 points only twice in their victories.

It’s been a bit of a family affair with two D’Agostinos and two Contes, along with junior Noah Morehouse as the core, with help from freshman Ryan Gaesser.

Junior CJ D’Agostino leads the team, averaging 14.8 points per game and in rebounding with 115 (53 offensive), while senior and cousin Vincent D’Agostino is second in points (13.9 ppg) and second in assists with 34.

Senior point guard (since senior starter Justin Rhodes was injured), Jonathan Conte led the squad with 64 assists, was second with 63 rebounds, and stood third on the scoring chart with 7.8 ppg, while freshman Samuel Conte was third in rebounding with 59 and chipping in seven points per game.

“We’re pretty unselfish on this team; our defense is our offense, we get the ball and get up quick,” Vincent D’Agostino said. “Our offense comes from our defense, and when we keep a strong defensive game, then our offense is always there.”

The Eagles were limiting opponents to shooting just 36% from the field, outrebounding them by 134 boards in 13 games, and combined for 150 steals.

“High intensity the whole game; even when we’re struggling on offense, we maintain a high intensity on defense,” Jonathan Conte said.

“We put a lot of energy into defense and rebounding…we have 15 to 20 assists every game, and I think that’s a beautiful thing,” noted head coach Kevin Rhodes. “We emphasize coachability, hard work, and being a great teammate. You might go 0-21, but if you can be those three things, you can build great memories and great experiences and relationships.”

Kendall last won a league title in 2014-15 and was the ninth seed last season for the playoffs before falling in the quarterfinals. As of February 3, they were slotted sixth in Class C1.

“We knew that we could come back, work in the offseason, and we can go deeper in sectionals this year, and that’s what we’re working to do,” Jonathan Conte said.

They will honor their past on Senior Night, February 12, when they will induct the championship 1975-76 boys basketball team, led by Roosevelt and Nate Bouie, into the Hall of Fame on their 50th anniversary. The team was ranked first by the New York State Sports Writers as the top team in the state after winning sectionals, the Genesee Region League, and 55 straight victories.

Churchville-Chili Diving Makes History: Three State Qualifiers https://westsidenewsny.com/schoolsports/2026-01-16/churchville-chili-diving-makes-history-three-state-qualifiers/ Sat, 17 Jan 2026 03:40:34 +0000 https://westsidenewsny.com/?p=111174 Churchville-Chili swimming and diving reached a historic milestone this season as all three of the program’s returning divers have qualified for the New York State Championships, set to take place in Ithaca this March.

Senior Isaac Bailey secured his first trip to the state competition in impressive fashion, scoring a personal-best 452.05 at the Webster Yeti Classic on January 9. Bailey’s breakthrough performance earned him a spot alongside freshman Jordan Leastman and senior Kyler Thomas, marking a rare and remarkable achievement for the Saints.

Leastman, despite being a freshman, will be making his second appearance at the state meet, while Thomas will compete at states for the third time in his high school career. Thomas continues to build on an already stellar résumé and currently sits ranked first in New York State.

The trio’s accomplishments place them firmly in Churchville-Chili history. All three divers rank among the program’s top five all-time scorers, holding the first, third, and fifth positions. Their dominance extends beyond the school record books: all three are ranked among the top five divers in Section V this season.

Churchville-Chili now stands as the only Section V team with more than one diver qualified for the state competition and may ultimately be the only team in the section to send three divers to Ithaca. The program’s continued success reflects the steady leadership of longtime diving coach Ricky Krebs, whose commitment to athlete development has helped elevate Churchville-Chili diving to the state level year after year.

As the postseason approaches, the Saints’ diving program continues to raise the bar, showcasing depth, consistency, and elite-level performances on the board. This historic achievement underscores not only individual excellence but the continued growth and success of Churchville-Chili diving at the sectional and state level.

Brockport CSD Appoints Nicole Morasco Assistant Superintendent for Business https://westsidenewsny.com/schoolsports/2026-01-16/brockport-csd-nicole-morasco/ Sat, 17 Jan 2026 03:06:08 +0000 https://westsidenewsny.com/?p=111143 The Brockport Central School District Board of Education has approved Nicole Morasco as the District’s next Assistant Superintendent for Business. Ms. Morasco will officially begin her role on Monday, February 2, 2026, ensuring a smooth transition with the current Assistant Superintendent for Business, Darrin Winkley, who will retire in April after more than 36 years of distinguished service. This planned crossover period ensures continuity of operations and a well-supported transfer of responsibilities.

Ms. Morasco brings a depth of financial and operational leadership experience spanning public school districts, public accounting, higher education, government, and nonprofit organizations. She currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Finance in the Kenmore–Town of Tonawanda Union Free School District, where she oversees a $190 million budget; provides strategic fiscal guidance to the superintendent and board; directs key operational departments; and manages capital projects, audits, and districtwide risk management.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Morasco served as the School Business Administrator at Oakfield-Alabama Central School District, where she led all business office functions and district operations, and developed long-term financial and reserve plans that were approved by the Board of Education. Her earlier career includes roles in accounting, compliance, and financial oversight across higher education, public accounting, and nonprofit organizations—experience that has given her a comprehensive understanding of fiscal systems, controls, and accountability.

Ms. Morasco holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and a Certificate of Advanced Study in School District Business Leadership from SUNY Brockport. She is also an active member of ASBO New York, where she currently serves as Chair of the Membership Committee.

“We are confident that Nicole’s extensive expertise, strategic mindset, and forward-thinking approach will be invaluable to the continued success of our District,” said Superintendent Sean Bruno. “Her exemplary leadership and dedication to fiscal integrity make her an outstanding addition to our team.”

The District also extends its appreciation to Darrin Winkley, whose more than three decades of service have profoundly shaped the organization’s stability and success. Mr. Winkley’s leadership, institutional knowledge, and unwavering commitment to responsible financial stewardship have benefited generations of students, staff, families, and community members.

“We are sincerely grateful for Darrin’s steady guidance and partnership over the years,” Superintendent Sean Bruno added. “His impact on our District is immeasurable, and we look forward to celebrating his exceptional career as he transitions into a well-deserved retirement this April.”
